talk time

Think about a time you were lost, maybe in a store, and couldn't find your mom or dad. Or maybe you were separated from your friends at school. Or perhaps there was a time you wandered away from your house and couldn't find your way back home.

  • How did you feel (scared, alone, left out)?
  • How did others feel when they thought you were lost (worried, separated, helpless)?

Being lost is a scary feeling. Many people, adults and children, are lost right now, and they don't even know it! They are lost in sin. That means they don't know about Jesus; they don't know how to find their way back to God. That is why Jesus came. He came to seek and to save the lost. Jesus came to die for our sins and rise from the dead. Jesus himself is our way back to God.

That is why Jesus calls himself our Good Shepherd. A shepherd takes care of his sheep, and if even one sheep wanders away and gets lost, the shepherd will go and find it and bring it back. Jesus came to find sinners and save them. He came to find and save you and me! You are his precious lamb, and he wants to keep you close to himself always.

pray

O Jesus, we are precious to you, so when we get lost in sin and go our own way, you are sad and seek to find us. When you find us, we are glad and so are you. Being found by you means we are loved and cared for and safe with you. Let us find more people for you to love and cherish. Amen.

SHEEP ROUNDUP
Supplies: large white balloons, permanent markers, gift wrapping tube or broom, painter's tape or box and a fan.
How to Play: Blow up the balloons and draw funny faces on them to make your sheep. Use the painter's tape to mark off a coral or turn a big box sideways to make a place to collect your sheep. Now take turns trying to round up the sheep using the wrapping tube or broom in sweeping motions to gather your sheep into the coral. Was that too easy? Add a fan to the game and try to keep your sheep from running off.

TREASURE FINDS
Supplies: collect 10 of your favorite things (toys, stuffed animals, etc.)

How to Play: Have someone hide your treasures and then have a hunt (like an Easter egg hunt) to find them. It's really fun to find a treasure, isn't it? You'll want to play again and again.

Variation: Use index cards to describe some of your favorite things without naming it (i.e., "it's blue, warm and cozy" for a blue blanket). Then trade cards and let someone else find your treasure and see if they guessed correctly.
