August is filled with worship, Bible study, community outreach, fellowship, opportunities to serve, and preparations for the beginning of a new school year at Unity Christian Church in Radford, Virginia.
A Message from Pastor Ben
This month, Pastor Ben begins a new worship series exploring what it means to be “perfectly imperfect.”
Jesus’ invitation to be perfect does not mean living without mistakes or measuring ourselves against impossible standards. Instead, Jesus shows us a kind of perfection rooted in sharing goodness, mercy, and love without judgment.
Throughout August, worship will consider how Jesus’ followers, Paul, Moses, the sons of Jacob, and Jesus himself remained faithful while embracing their imperfections. Their stories remind us that we are free to be faithful to who God created us to be rather than living under the pressure of someone else’s definition of perfection.

Brown Bag Bible Study meets every Monday from 12:00–1:00 PM at Unity Christian Church.

Community Table
Unity Christian Church’s Community Table serves a free meal every Saturday from 4:00–4:30 PM.

Community Table is one of Unity Christian Church’s ongoing outreach ministries serving people in Radford and the surrounding New River Valley community.
Radford Community Fest
Unity Christian Church will participate in Radford Community Fest on Saturday, August 22, from 11:00 AM–6:00 PM.
East Main Street will feature more than 100 local vendors, food trucks, live music, street performers, community organizations, and downtown Radford businesses.
Volunteers are needed to help Unity reach out to the community during the event. Anyone interested in helping may contact Teresa in the church office.
Craig Springs Camp
Children and families from Unity Christian Church enjoyed another summer of camp at Craig Springs Camp and Conference Center.
The congregation celebrates the friendships, faith formation, outdoor activities, and memories created during this year’s camping season.
Vacation Bible School
Thank you to Sally and her team for leading another successful Vacation Bible School.
Children and families gathered for games, activities, Bible lessons, fellowship, and summer fun. Unity is grateful to everyone who volunteered and helped make this year’s program possible.
Christian Women’s Fellowship
Christian Women’s Fellowship and Circle Groups will resume meeting in August.
The Oasis Circle will meet Tuesday, August 4, at 10:30 AM at Unity Christian Church.
The M&M’s Circle will meet Tuesday, August 4, at 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.
Christian Women’s Fellowship will meet Tuesday, August 4, at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.
Circle Groups are open to all women who would like to learn more, participate in fellowship, and support the ministries of the church.
August Kids
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the August Kids program.
Christian Women’s Fellowship contributed $1,190, including $525 from its budget and $665 from individual CWF members. Members of Unity Christian Church contributed an additional $283, bringing Unity’s total contribution to $1,473.
These donations will help more than 17 children in the City of Radford purchase new clothing and shoes before the beginning of the school year.
Hollyberry Fair Donations
The Hollyberry Fair will be held Saturday, December 5.
Donations of new items, gently used items, and handmade items are being accepted. Clothing cannot be donated.
Items may be placed outside the labeled Hollyberry Fair room downstairs or left beneath the coat rack near the welcome area.
The Hollyberry Fair is Christian Women’s Fellowship’s primary fundraiser, and volunteers are also needed to help prepare for the event.
Lemonade Stand for Little Big Dog Rescue
Congratulations to Alora Clark, who raised $356.25 through her lemonade stand benefiting Little Big Dog Rescue.
The money will help provide food, medical care, and other necessities for dogs waiting for their permanent homes.
One of the rescue’s adoptable puppies, Andora, also visited the lemonade stand to thank Alora and spend time with supporters.
Unity is proud of Alora’s compassion, generosity, and commitment to helping animals in the community.
Prayer Garden
Thank you to Dottie and Ronnie Wheeler for caring for and improving Unity Christian Church’s Prayer Garden.
Decorative rock was added around the garden markers, helping refresh and beautify this peaceful area of the church property.
Lunch Bunch
Lunch Bunch will meet Wednesday, August 26, at 12:00 PM at Sal’s Jr.
This monthly gathering offers a relaxed opportunity for food, conversation, and fellowship.
Bible Readings for August
Daily Bible readings continue through Isaiah and begin the book of Jeremiah.
The August reading schedule begins with Isaiah 7–9 and continues through Jeremiah 37–39.
Members are encouraged to follow the daily reading schedule throughout August as part of their personal prayer and Bible study.
Serving Our Community
Unity Christian Church received another meaningful message of thanks through its Red Box ministry.
These messages are reminders that providing a meal, offering encouragement, and responding to everyday needs can make a real difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout the community.

A Message From Rev. Ben Moore
God is at work right here and right now. Sometimes we can get lost in the bigness of what God is doing, that God is at work everywhere and at all times, and forget that there are specifics to how and what God is doing wherever and whenever right here and right now happen to be. But God is at work right here and right now, wherever and whenever that is for you.
That same bigness of God can overwhelm us when we try to imagine what God is up to, imagine what God’s love is like, imagine what heaven is like, imagine what the kingdom of God is. But what would it look like to imagine what God could do right here in our lives, how God could and wants to change the way things are so that they become the way things should be.
As we are in this transitional space it is a great time to remember that God is seeking transition in the work that God is doing in the world. God does not want to leave us, or our world, in the state we and it are in.
Instead God is working to bring about change, to mold God’s creation into something more.
Right now, we are in the middle of a sermon series asking us to imagine the world that God is making, and what that more would look like, not in an abstract big picture way, but in its change for our lives, for our church, and for our community. Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus himself are constantly pointing us to what it is that God is up to in our lives, in our cities and towns, in our church. Then we are asked how we can join in with that work, to take that imagining and put it into practice as co-creators with God.
God is able to do, as the writer of Ephesians tells us, extraordinarily more than we can think or imagine. But God starts by doing something that could also be beyond our thinking and imagining, inviting us to be a part of that work, helping us to imagine a world that is so much more than we know, and then making that world a reality.
